Why knowing what to watch for is the first step
It might be a funk. But it’s not just in your head. Unfortunately people may often attribute these symptoms to “getting old” or “being out of shape” or “emotional issues” like depression. Parathyroid problems often cause these non-specific symptoms.
Fact is, if you’re experiencing a number of abnormal symptoms that you’ve never had before and aren’t quite sure what the problem is, it’s totally possible that a parathyroid problem is what’s tripping you up. The important thing to remember is, this may very well be a real issue for you. Sure, you’re starting to feel tired and sluggish and can’t seem to find the motivation to dig in at work or cut loose with friends that you used to. But that doesn’t mean that it’s your fault.
It’s important that you equip yourself with information so you can best address the problem – no matter what it is. The following is designed to help give you an idea of some of the signs and symptoms of a parathyroid problem so you can get better.
Symptoms of parathyroid problems
Loss of Energy
Lethargy might be one of the most popular signs and symptoms of a parathyroid problem. And for many people, it’s frustrating. It’s one of those things that not only makes you upset, but makes you upset about being upset. Nobody wants to feel lazy. We all like to feel motivated – and accomplished after we’ve come through after all of the extra mojo that we’re feeling. So, not only is it a bummer when we’re not feeling like this to begin with, but later, in the absence of that feel-good accomplishment, we tend to sulk a little more. This makes things especially tough, and understandably so. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be this way. In fact, it might be your best friend, because it could be what leads you to the doorstep of your solution.
Feeling “Off”
While labeling this medical phenomenon might be tough, understanding its effects isn’t. Sometimes, we just feel like something isn’t right. We can’t quite put our fingers on it, and there are days when we wake up and can’t help but notice, “Man, this isn’t right.” This is a totally legitimate perception and there’s a reason for that: the body is very adept at telling people what’s going on and triggering that something might be up. For people with thyroid problems, this is one.
Lack of Concentration
This, too, might be one of the toughest things to struggle with: concentration. Sometimes we joke about being spacey, but the reality is, people like to perceive life. (Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?) If you can’t perceive life, you don’t make memories. If you don’t make memories, not only does keeping the job and friends that permit and enrich your life become pretty difficult, but it also makes it tough to draw on experiences. Isn’t that the greatest part of life, reminiscing? For people with parathyroid problems, this could be one of the first things to go. It’s unfortunate, but same as above, it’s also a blessing, in a sense, seeing that such a stark trigger of a problem will get your attention and lead you to the solution.
Depression
And this is not only the product of your circumstances. In other words, you’re not only upset, as was mentioned before, because you’re upset. Proper parathyroid function is very heavily linked to mood. If your parathyroid is out of whack – and that could be that it’s either working too hard or not enough – your mood is likely to take a hit. This, too, is a very frustrating part of parathyroid problems. Then again, now that you know what to watch for, you should be thankful for all of it.
If you have questions or concerns about parathyroid problems see your local doctor who will arrange for you to see a thyroid surgeon.
